Topaz Bon - Flight to Irma - 2018

Imagine you are on a flight to Irma, where the beaches are hot, the drinks are cool and the breeze is refreshing. You’re chilling in this wonderful place and then the music hits. Wow! You must be in heaven you think. The bossa nova grooves flow though you and off across the waves, giving you an almost otherworldly feeling.

What you are experiencing is the sound of Irma Records, founded in Bologna, Italy in 1989. I first came across this label with their series of compilations, Sister Bossa and Irma Jazz Funk’n’ Bossa. This was a new sound to me and I soon collected all of these. Artists such as BossaNostra and Montefiori Cocktail had this wonderful mixture of bossa, jazz, funk and something new, which to me was beautiful ear candy!

Flight to Irma is dedicated to this label and tries to capture these elements in one groove. It has a light bouncy piano/timbale solo and melodies that flutter in and out while the melodic bass drives the groove along. Of course there is that bossa element too!
